— Definition of a Village
Bahasa IndonesiaDesa adalah kesatuan masyarakat hukum yang memiliki batas wilayah yang berwenang untuk mengatur dan mengurus Urusan Pemerintahan, kepentingan masyarakat setempat berdasarkan prakarsa masyarakat, hak asal usul, dan/atau hak tradisional yang diakui dan dihormati dalam sistem pemerintahan Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia.
English (British)A village is a community unit having territorial boundaries and the authority to regulate and manage governmental affairs and the interests of the local community based on community initiative, origin rights and/or traditional rights recognised and respected in the governmental system of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

— Duties of the Village Head
Bahasa Indonesia(1) Kepala Desa bertugas menyelenggarakan Pemerintahan Desa, melaksanakan Pembangunan Desa, pembinaan kemasyarakatan Desa, dan pemberdayaan masyarakat Desa.
English (British)(1) The village head is tasked with conducting village governance, carrying out village development, fostering village community life, and empowering the village community.

Article 39
— Term of the Village Head
Bahasa Indonesia(1) Kepala Desa memegang jabatan selama 8 (delapan) tahun terhitung sejak tanggal pelantikan.
(2) Kepala Desa dapat menjabat paling banyak 2 (dua) kali masa jabatan, baik secara berturut-turut maupun tidak berturut-turut.
English (British)(1) The village head holds office for 8 (eight) years from the date of inauguration.
(2) The village head may serve for a maximum of 2 (two) terms, whether consecutive or non-consecutive.
