Article 1 — Definition of Higher Education

Pendidikan Tinggi adalah jenjang pendidikan setelah pendidikan menengah yang mencakup program diploma, program sarjana, program magister, program doktor, dan program profesi, serta program spesialis, yang diselenggarakan oleh perguruan tinggi berdasarkan kebudayaan bangsa Indonesia.

Higher education is the level of education after secondary education, covering diploma, bachelor's, master's, doctoral and professional programmes, as well as specialist programmes, provided by universities on the basis of Indonesian national culture.

Fungsi

Article 4 — Function of Higher Education

Pendidikan Tinggi berfungsi mengembangkan kemampuan dan membentuk watak serta peradaban bangsa yang bermartabat; mengembangkan sivitas akademika yang inovatif, responsif, kreatif, terampil, berdaya saing, dan kooperatif; serta mengembangkan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi dengan memperhatikan dan menerapkan nilai humaniora.

Higher education functions to develop capabilities and shape the character and dignified civilisation of the nation; to develop an academic community that is innovative, responsive, creative, skilled, competitive and cooperative; and to develop science and technology while observing and applying humanistic values.

Tujuan

Pendidikan Tinggi bertujuan antara lain berkembangnya potensi Mahasiswa agar menjadi manusia yang beriman dan bertakwa kepada Tuhan Yang Maha Esa dan berakhlak mulia, sehat, berilmu, cakap, kreatif, mandiri, terampil, kompeten, dan berbudaya untuk kepentingan bangsa; serta dihasilkannya ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi melalui penelitian yang memperhatikan dan menerapkan nilai humaniora.

Higher education aims, among other things, for the development of students' potential to become people of faith and devotion to the One Almighty God, of noble character, healthy, learned, capable, creative, independent, skilled, competent and cultured for the nation; and for science and technology produced through research that observes and applies humanistic values.
